So NASA's backup plan last week was to take two astronauts (of four) off the upcoming SpaceX Dragon Crew-9 mission, leaving two spots open for the Orion crew to return home.  Crew-9 was scheduled for August 18.

 

WAS scheduled.  Now they're considering delaying it to Sept 24...to give them more time to figure out the software glitch in Calypso (that specific Orion capsule's name.)  Boeing has pushed a software update to Calypso...but NASA seems to have low confidence in it.  

 

So you've got two astronauts on the ISS, NASA could bring back, but has decided not to because...reasons. 

 

And you know what the worst thing is for those astronauts?  They have no mission to perform on the ISS.  They must be bored out of their minds.

Know how I know?  Because I'm the guy that fixed it.  VERIFI was mine.  But the PDF is wrong - it was still in use when I left in 2020.  Know why the PDF says that?  

 

Because Google, who ran US Information Services, created by Obama, tried to write VERIFI, &#%$ed it up, killed it, then told everyone "Success!  Don't need it anymore."  Me and my team had to rewrite the damn thing.  

 

They didn't spend "gobs of money buying loyalty."  They were handed (I don't think it was ever competitively bid) a cushy gig by the Obama administration they used to generate PR, and got paid for it in the process.  

 

I'm still pissed they effectively took credit for my work, too.

It's actually typical DoD force and doctrinal planning: planning for the last war.

 

The threats we're facing now are unlikely to be the threats we face in 2040.  DoD does try to predict necessary force structure (usually with little success, just because predicting the future is hard.)  But in this case...explicitly not considering true future needs?
