How the Bills' community benefits deal suddenly got three years longer

When the community benefits deal tied to the construction of the new Buffalo Bills stadium was first revealed, it was believed to be an agreement that would last for 30 years.

But as it turns out, it’s really a 33-year deal.

So how did the agreement suddenly get longer?

It all hinged on a closer look at the deal’s terms by the Bills’ legal team and their determination that the agreement didn’t kick in when the stadium opened, but rather once the lease was signed. It is a legal twist that Erie County’s top attorney admits he didn’t see coming.

“I want to be real public about the team deserving credit for stepping in … and coming to a conclusion that, quite frankly, I missed,” Erie County Attorney Jeremy Toth said.

And that means more money – upward of $9 million – will be flowing into the community under the terms of a Community Benefits Agreement that is expected to pump more than $100 million in initiatives backed by the settlement over the next 33 years.

Price hike: Seat prices doubling at new Bills stadium for some club season ticket holders

</snip>

Some fans with season tickets in the club areas who have already been through the Stadium Experience Center in Williamsville to hear the team’s sales pitch have reported that their tickets in comparable seats at the new stadium will be rising by almost 100%.

“Some of the PSL prices had already been out there, but nobody said much about the season ticket prices,” said Luke Mages, a season ticket holder since 2019, who decided against tickets at the new stadium. “The numbers we had been seeing, they were more like a 25% to 30% increase in ticket prices, and we thought that was fine. Seeing the actual ticket prices is where my excitement went away.”

</snip>

The News spoke to six club seat season ticket members – three have purchased tickets at the new stadium, and three, for now, have said no.

Mages, 41, and his wife sit together with her parents in Section 202 right now and he pays $5,000 for two tickets. The price he was presented for two comparable tickets at the new stadium was $9,800 – a more than 95% cost increase – with a $15,000 PSL for each seat.

Bruzgul bought two seats in the East Club, Section 208 in the front row starting in the aisle with a PSL of $10,000. Their price for two seats will go up from $4,800 to $8,600. He said even though he only makes it to about half of the Bills home games each season, he feels relieved that he won’t have to fight for a ticket to a game and sit somewhere different every time.

Angelica James of Wheatfield and her husband decided to pass on tickets for now.

Their season tickets are about $4,300 per year for two seats, which would have risen to $8,610 per year with a PSL of $10,000 each in the East Club. They are part of a group of eight, attending games with three other couples for the past four years. The couple have two young children, so they also try to sell a few games each season.

"Circadian rhythm lighting" sounds annoying as &#%$ lighting, but a great name for a garage band.

I realize this is the Bills getting on par with many other NFL teams/stadiums, but this cost is a little nuts IMO.  Especially in a town/area with less population and far fewer large corporate HQs than other cities.
