Our HS Rifle Team practiced in a shooting range in the basement of the middle school and they brought their rifles on the bus home occassionally.  The rifles were in gun cases, but still they were on the bus with the rest of the kids.  Nobody thought twice about it.

As many of you may already know I run a junior rifle team here in NH.  I learned that the 4H riflery program has the lowest insurance.  Lower than the 4H quilting program insurance.  It is probably the safest sport there is.

My high school, in the '80s, had a range in the basement.

 

The school shooting team's yearbook photos had them all pointing rifles at the camera.  Still, no one died.
