Don't really believe they care if a conviction is overturned on appeal.  The election is less than 6 months away.  No way this trial ends AND an appeal is heard within that time frame.

 

They want to be able to say that he's a convicted felon prior to the election.  As the other trials seem to be going against the prosecutors lately, this would seem to be their last best chance to make that happen.  And it seems the judge is going to do everything in his power to let that happen, regardless of how much it seems to be turning into a show trial.
