In all honesty, I've had several dealings with OIGs - at least once supporting an investigation, many times filing a complaint to get one started (twice have had contractors removed from projects for fraud.)

 

Always seemed to do their jobs, never seemed to get political.  I've never seen an inspector general's office that had a problem being adversarial with their department.

It's a little curious to pick a running mate who's called you Hitler, a few days after an assassination attempt that was caused by eight years of being called Hitler.

 

Curious not so much for the choice, as...really, you're just going to hand this to Democrats now?

On a 3D chess level, it could be brilliant.  Everybody knows the D's and media (sorry for the repetition there) will have a heck of a time getting themselves to NOT call 45 actual, literal Hitler even though it'd be in their best interest (IMHO) for them to do so.  To have his own VP having called him Hitler in the past, will make it too hard for them to not do it too and shout "but even his own VP believes that" so it HAS TO BE TRUE while they're doing it.

 

Only flaw in that theory, is really doubt he's playing 3D chess.  Personally believe he thinks he's got the election pretty much in the bag and wants to make sure he doesn't get sold out again by people that would say they're on his side but actually are on the DC Insiders side.

 

It's kind of interesting in a way.  Neither candidate seems to be doing anything to help their own chances of winning the election, but both are acting like they expect they don't need to increase their own chances of getting elected.

To extend the chess metaphor...just an odd gambit.  And I get that the decision was made before the assassination attempt, so it's unrelated.

 

Just feels odd.  Not "good" odd or "bad" odd...just odd.
