The DNC primary process include 700-some "superdelegates" - about 16% of the delegates - that are not chosen by election. They're the state and national party leaders who vote for whoever they choose. Been that way since 1982. The Democrat's primary process is ironically less democratic than the Republican process (which is straight elected delegates, no superdelegates). Democrats have never been about "protecting Democracy," only about protecting the power base of the party elite. And they've never hidden the fact.
