B-Man
More Lies. Transcript of the ad: "Nearly 250 years ago America was founded in defiance of a king under the belief that no one is above the law, not even the President. Until now. The same Trump Supreme Court that overturned Roe v. Wade ruled that the President can ignore the law even to commit a crime because Donald Trump asked them to. He's already led an insurrection and threatened to be a dictator on Day One. Donald Trump can never hold this office again." But the Supreme Court didn't say "the President can ignore the law." The Biden Administration just got hemmed in by law — the law that prevents it from criminally prosecuting the former President, waging lawfare to fight a political rival. And the Supreme Court only protected the President from criminal prosecution for his official acts. Where the President violates the law, he's subject to impeachment. You can't impeach a King. And it's funny how that ad refers to revolution twice, first to uphold it as a glorious ideal — "America was founded in defiance of a king" — and then to denounce it — "He's already led an insurrection." But the ad isn't about coherence. It's a montage of fear. https://althouse.blogspot.com/2024/07/president-biden-acknowledged-at.html

For the time being I will assume NYT is just gaslighting Biden into quitting because it is their wish. If this was a serious piece I think we would know a little more in terms of a source. The Times also has a story today that US allies are worried about the stability of the US now that the Supreme Court has turned the country into a dictatorship... 1 2 2

I don't know how that happens as Biden's name is on most states' ballots. Should he die then it falls to Harris. What am I missing? Nothing. It's way too late for a complete newcomer to get into the race, and MO has shown no interest in running. It's Biden or Harris - either way, both are toxic to voters in their own base. Kamala will bleed independent voters faster than a braindead Joe, but will secure the big money donors who are wavering. Either way, they still lose - by a lot - in November. There's no time to rehab her image, and the margin has grown too big (and no one has faith in the media being honest brokers even on the left) for the cheat to work. It's going to be a fun (and dangerous) next four months. 51 minutes ago, Hedge said: From the Wayback Machine, if you get paywalled: https://web.archive.org/web/20240703145633/https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/03/us/politics/biden-withdraw-election-debate.html The meltdown continues: 1

IDBillzFan
One point I heard yesterday and read again today (as the markets move toward Kneepads to take over for Joe); if Joe does come out and say he's dropping out of the race, how quickly do the calls start to have him removed now? If he can't run the campaign, how can he run the country for the next six months? He'll have to bow out completely. 1 1

That's not a real article, that's a campaign statement. "Vote Democrat! Even though we don't know who our candidate is, we're introspective and responsible enough to admit we don't have one!" It's not a very good campaign statement...but really, what the hell can you do at this point? 2
Hedge
The Libertarian Party in Colorado refused to slot their own parties leftist candidate in favor of RFK Jr: https://www.coloradopolitics.com/elections/2024/colorado-libertarians-designate-rfk-jr-to-states-november-ballot-after-snubbing-partys-own-ticket/article_74f7e22c-38e2-11ef-bfcc-af2936a5dbee.html "The move follows the state Libertarians' decision last month not to submit paperwork for the party's presidential ticket after determining the presidential and vice presidential candidates nominated by the national Libertarian Party don't share the state party's core values." "Kennedy, the Colorado Libertarians said, shares the party's commitment to civil liberties, free markets and a hands-off approach to foreign policy. The party also said Kennedy signed a pledge agreeing with "many of the positions libertarians strongly hold," though the party doesn't plan to release the document an unspecified future date." Because he's a little bit communist? WTF? "Ahead of Colorado's June 25 congressional and legislative primary election, several Republican candidates signed pledges created by the state Libertarian Party as part of a deal reached with the Colorado GOP intended to prevent Libertarians from siphoning votes from Republicans who align with the minor party's principles." "The Kennedy ticket's numerous affiliations so far include accepting a nod in California from the American Independent Party, which formed in the 1960s to give segregationist George Wallace a leg up in the state. In Michigan, Kennedy and Shanahan are running under the banner of the Natural Law Party." Even with all of the above, I've seen that he won't be on the ballot in enough states to get to the magic number in the electoral college.

HaHa, leave it to the libertarians to drift away from each other. At least they stick to their principles.
