Dolphins Chat 2024

The best way to protect Tua is to put him on IR and remove any ability to play for 4 weeks while his brain recovers.

His coach obviously has a vested interest in trotting Tua out as soon as possible to save his season.

In the aftermath of Tua Tagovailoa suffering another concussion during Thursday night’s matchup with the Bills, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel refused to offer a timeline for the quarterback’s return while saying he thinks Tagovailoa is unlikely to play next week in a Friday morning video conference.

McDaniel was adamant that he did not want to add any anxiety to Tagovailoa by discussing anything about his career going forward. McDaniel said several times that the most important thing for Tagovailoa right now is to focus on getting healthy and being a father to his children.

The financial consequences for Tagovailoa and Dolphins as he deals with another concussion

Among the financial details that have come to light in the wake of Tagovailoa’s concussion Thursday:

▪ The contract contains no clauses or exceptions or waivers for concussions, per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.
According to overthecap.com’s Jason Fitzgerald, insurance covers $49.3 million of the $167.1 million guaranteed for injury in Tagovailoa’s contract. He would be due $167.1 million if he’s never cleared to play but doesn’t retire.
Per spotrac.com’s Michael Ginnitti, $43 million of the $167 million that’s guaranteed for injury already has been paid to Tagovailoa.
Ginnitti said if Tagovialoa is “medically cleared to return to football, but opts to retire, he will forego the remaining $124M guaranteed (barring a custom settlement). If he’s medically forced into retirement, he has a right to collect the $124M remaining.”

I'm just so glad that we don't have a football coach who uses phrases like "timelines give anxiety"

:classic_cool:

In fairness to him, if he gave any real answer he'd be held accountable by all the world's idiots.  It's something that happens every single day of my professional life.  The idiots "in charge" will ask questions about huge programs that have very open-ended timelines just because the scopes are both enormous and dynamic.  No matter how much experience these people have, they'll constantly ask about where the goal line is rather than focus on the easier things like individual steps that have fairly finite and definable goals.  Anyone who gives a real answer gets crushed regularly when easily forecastable events move the timelines to the right.

It's mind-numbing but it's almost impossible to avoid.

I'm about ready to quit my whole career because of that.

What's Josh's cut gonna be?

You know those "name, player, school" intros for SNF?

I would pay to see "Josh Allen, quarterback, owner of the Miami Dolphins."

You would think the Texans offensive coach saw enough footage of what happens when you throw a quick screen to Diggs.

Apparently not.

An even slightly better offense beats the Texans tonight.

Williams took a pounding. Hard to blame him when the rush was in his lap that often, but, he didn't look very good on his throws over ten yards.

So Bengals held the Chiefs to 1-8 on third downs, got three turnovers from the Chiefs, and still lost?

Also, it is just my natural disdain for the way the media treats Lamar Jackson, or did he actually LOOK defeated on the sidelines before he was even beaten?  Going to be interesting watching them go into Dallas, who had their own ass handed to them after being anointed the belle of the ball last week, before the Bills go into Baltimore.

Happens in every discipline.  The most frustrating aspect to me is when good people are promoted and gradually lose their awareness or learn to ignore it for supposed expedience.
