Former presidents get AA coverage, not AAA or Major League. It's not scandalous, it's how things have always been done.

It's not scandalous, it's how things have always been done. Of course, former presidents also drop out of the media spotlight, too. Even 44 who stuck around DC hasn't been everywhere all the time. It's probably a good thing that former presidents that are media ###### don't get extra coverage as we really don't want to encourage them to not simply go away after they're out of office. But when that former president is the presumptive nominee for president of one of the 2 major parties they probably should get extra security prior to their party convention. (Understatement for those not paying close enough attention. 😉 ) We haven't been in this situation in the past. And even when a former president's spouse became the nominee for president of one of the 2 major parties; he himself for the most part maintained a low profile during the campaign/election. And, personally, am expecting guidelines for how these situations are handled will be revised significantly over the next few months (if not immediately).

The Book was insufficient for this situation...but The Book exists for a reason, and it's not in the federal bureaucracy's nature to deviate from The Book (God, don't I know it. See my previous complaints about these &#%$ing security audits I'm involved in, auditing shit that doesn't exist because The Book tells them to). Ultimately, though, it was Cheatle's job to tell people to deviate from The Book, and she didn't, because they judged that the threat level didn't warrant it. Which is pretty silly, since it's the Democrats that caused the high threat level, by calling Trump Hitler. But then, when have Democrats every foreseen the consequences of their actions?
IDBillzFan
Why don't you people understand that the real problem with the Trump assassination attempt is...you're all a bunch of racist, sexist pigs. Pressley is walking proof that elections are fixed. Between her and Mr. Guam Tip Over, it's impossible to believe their entire districts are THIS phucking stupid. 1

"Have said that...hiring women and people of color hindered the response to the shooter." No one's saying that. They're saying that hiring women and people of color simply for being women and people of color who are unqualified for the job hindered the response to the shooter. It's 2024. Who in America give a shit about race or gender, as long as the person can do the job? &#%$ing dingbat. 1

Rather than read whatever questions she prepped last night, she made comments and asked questions related to answers the director had just given. AOC's comment that 60 days is far too long to wait for the USSS "report" was spot on. Edited July 22 by Ninety-4

Not sure...but also not relevant. No one's a candidate until the party nomination is complete. Trump wasn't a candidate at the time, by USSS regulation. Same basic logic that applies to national security briefings...until someone is officially a candidate, they aren't entitled to them.
