But if Trump were to win, he is term limited.  McCarthy will be looking for a path out of the wilderness after 2028

 

If Trump were to lose, McCarthy doesn't wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of the finger pointing.

 

For all his faults, McCarthy never accepted the thirty pieces like Kinzinger.  Nor does he have Liz's bloodline
