Having Coop in the WR room may help Coleman out

What bugged me about the Diggs trade.  Not having a vet presence in the WR room for Coleman.

They got a very good, well-seasoned veteran for three dollars and a box of Little Debbies. He's an immediate upgrade to a team that is currently 4-2 (2-0 in the division), a multi-year 1000+ yds receiver, and that was catching passes from Watson and Flacco.

Smile, Joe. It's a great move.

Yep.  He is their new #1 receiver (with Shakir breathing down his neck) and putting either Coleman or Hollis out there as the 3rd WR when you absolutely refuse to run 12 personnel (which for whatever reason they always refuse to run 12 personnel) works.

EDIT:  And now at least there'll be a bit of logic to never playing Samuel as an actual WR.

Couple points:

Is he better than MVS? Yes, probably.

He's 30.

Has he ever had a GREAT season? Many years ago, on the Raiders.

It's not like we're bringing in a prime Jerry Rice here.

It's an OK move.

Okay, C3P-Joe.

Is the #1/#2 distinction even meaningful anymore?  Aside from short-yardage situations, when you know you're not passing to a WR anyway, when are they not both on the field?

Additionally, if Cooper doesn't re-sign and goes on to a decent contract, we likely recoup the third we traded.  So it becomes a 3rd and a 7th for a later comp 3rd and a 6th.

There's literally no losing this trade.

Not a big surprise. For all the grief Hollins gets (not undeserved), he can block. I wonder if MVS ends up on the practice squad once clearing waivers (is he subject to waivers?)

I hope not, the PS is for developing talent and MVS looks like he will never develop into a good pass catcher whether concentration issues or whatever, all he has is speed

Multiple thousand yard seasons including last year when he also set a Brown record for receiving yards in a game. As for the Jerry Rice comment, no one will ever be as good as Rice was in his prime and if there were, it would cost us a heck of a lot more than Coop did

It only matters when your opponent doesn't have the horses to take away your number 1 without constantly tipping their hand.  That's when the best WRs tend to feast because they can win without scheming them into a matchup problem.

Diggs used to just murder the Fish, for example.

"Air yards on incomplete targets" is a stat too dumb even for the OBF DAB Quantum POMA.
