I think about things like that all the time.  Who was the first person that thought cheese was a good idea?  Who first took a look at a cucumber and said "I wonder how that is?"

I've always wondered whether they had a designated "Village Test Subject" to be the first to try the berry or the mushroom, etc.

"I'll bet those berries aren't safe to eat.  The bonobos avoid them."

"Let's have Crap Throwing Ug try them first.  Maybe it'll shut him up."

Prisoner or slave.  One of them was going to be the designated "Mikey."

If they would have let the Bosnians swim, maybe Gavrilo Princep spends that day relaxing at the beach

I don't remember having a living room TV with knobs on it but I do remember having a TV with a numberpad.  Whenever my parents wanted to change the channel, they said two numbers and either my brother or I got up.

Ahhh, the UHF and VHF knobs. We had a tv like that Had to turn the VHF knob to uhf and then change the UHF to that desired channel. The finicky rabbit ears were the worse until we saved up enough for the rooftop.

When the dial tv console was in the shop getting the tubes worked on my parents broke down and replaced it with a Zenith from Sears labeled as a Sears TV. Had a "Clicker" that would click it through one channel at a time and you could "Program" specific channels into each button. I believe there were 20 spots to choose. When you wanted to go from 7 to 5 you would click 18 times.
